The end of STFC Matchday programmes

The Shrewsbury Town Official Supporters Club wishes to express its disappointment at the decision by Shrewsbury Town Football Club to discontinue the production of the matchday programme. Whilst we fully recognise the commercial pressures involved, and we would not want the club to incur financial losses, we believe there were opportunities to explore alternative ways of improving programme sales before reaching this decision. Feedback from supporters consistently highlights that programmes have often been difficult to purchase around the ground, with limited availability in key areas such as the Fan Zone and the away end—locations where demand could potentially have been increased. Matchday programmes have long formed an important part of the football experience and are deeply embedded in the traditions of the game.

For many supporters, they represent more than just a publication; they are a lasting record of matches, seasons, and eras. Generations of fans have built collections spanning decades, documenting the history and identity of the club. The discontinuation of the programme, therefore, leaves a significant gap for many supporters and risks eroding an important element of the club’s heritage. The ability to look back, reflect, and celebrate past moments through these records is something that cannot easily be replaced. Chris Allen, Chairman of the Shrewsbury Town Official Supporters Club, said: “Whilst we understand the financial realities behind the decision, it is disappointing that more was not done to try and grow programme sales before bringing them to an end. Many supporters have found it difficult to purchase programmes on matchdays, particularly in key areas such as the Fan Zone and the away end, where availability has been limited. “For so many fans, programmes are part of the fabric of supporting Shrewsbury Town. They are not just something you read on the day—they are something you keep, collect, and look back on for years to come. Many supporters have collections going back decades, and losing that risks eroding a small but meaningful part of the club’s history and heritage.” As a Supporters Club, we remain committed to representing the views of our members and the wider fanbase.

We would welcome further dialogue with the club to better understand the decision and to explore whether alternative solutions—such as improved distribution, crowd-sourced content or revised formats — could still play a role in preserving this valued tradition. We encourage supporters to share their views with us so that we can ensure they are represented in ongoing discussions. Shrewsbury Town Official Supporters Club
